Coahoma Tigers Host Northeast Tigers Thursday

5/16/13

CLARKSDALE –A dramatic battle of big cats clawing to improve their 1-4 season records is forecast inside James Miller Stadium this week when Coahoma Community College hosts Northeast at 6:30 p.m.

Both Tiger teams will take the field following losses last week, and their pursuit of momentum should impact the winner.

Although Coahoma lost 48-17 to East Mississippi, the country’s top-rated community college team Sept. 27, the hometown Tigers scored first and were down only four points (14-10 and 21-17) most of the first half before mistakes and penalties chipped away their chances.

Following earlier season losses to ranked teams: Gulf Coast, Hinds, and Northwest, Coahoma upset Pearl River 34-24 in Poplarville, and the win ignited high spirits.

CCC Coach Freeman Horton is pushing now for four consecutive wins.

Playing last week in Perkinston, the Northeast Tigers were defeated 61-7 by the Gulf Coast Bulldogs who ran for 404 yards and forced five turnovers. Their single 30-21 victory against the Jones County Bobcats was the second game of the season.

Coahoma plays Itawamba Oct. 11 on the road, and returns Oct. 20 for Homecoming against Mississippi Delta.

Coahoma’s games are broadcast on WNEV Radio (98.7).
