Description:
The Head Softball Coach is responsible for the organization, direction and administration of the softball program, including the implementation and maintenance of standards of academic and athletic excellence. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, thorough knowledge of and adherence to the rules and regulations of Coahoma Community College, National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and Region XXIII. A thorough understanding of the role of athletics in the educational process is also a requirement.
Duties: • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge and application of NJCAA, MACJC, college and department rules and regulations
• Schedules and conducts regular practice sessions in and out of season, as permitted by state and national rules and regulations
• Recommends to the Athletic Director/Assistant Athletic Director the sport’s competitive event schedule
• Recommends participation in post-season games when applicable
• Scouts and recruits quality student-athletes
• Coordinates eligibility checks to ensure prospective student-athletes qualify for aid and admission to college
• Supervises all contacts with prospective student-athletes to avoid violations of recruiting rules and regulations
• Recommends through the college’s planning process both physical and budgetary needs of the softball program
• Be accountable for the expense control compliance and administration of the sport’s budget
• Monitors purchasing of equipment and supplies throughout the college’s fiscal year
• Takes an active interest in the academic progress of each student-athlete
• Works closely with appropriate individuals to monitor the academic progress of each student-athlete
• Develops and implements programs to inform student-athletes of all college resources available to them
• Coordinates housing arrangements for student-athletes
• Assists in the transportation of student-athletes to and from medical facilities
• Is responsible for search, selection, and training of qualified assistant coaches in accordance with all college personnel policies
• Is responsible for annually evaluating coaches and staff under his/her supervision
• Coordinates team travel needs with the Director of Athletics
• Follows policies and procedures as stated in employee handbook and athletic handbook
• Attends professional meetings and workshops
• Ensures enforcement of rules and regulations regarding student-athletes’ conduct and appearance
• Demonstrates a cooperative attitude toward all other sports within the Department of Athletics
• Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director
