As the newly appointed Fifth President of Coahoma Community College and the Ninth Superintendent of the Agricultural High School, I am very proud to announce that it is a historic time for Coahoma Community College, as we celebrate our past and pave the way for our very promising future. 2013 marks our 89th year and a new beginning. We have grown quite a bit since our early days. We became Coahoma Junior College and Agricultural High School in 1949 and in 1989; we officially became Coahoma Community College. It is our founders, alumni, students, and faculty and staff, past and present, which have propelled our Coahoma Community College forward and formed who we are today.
Coahoma Community College is on the move, and our future is full of potential. The City of Clarksdale and the surrounding counties of Bolivar, Coahoma, Quitman, Tallahatchie and Tunica support our efforts to offer the best quality education for our students. We are out actively recruiting students, reviewing our program of studies and planning for our exciting future.
Nevertheless, as we grow, we will stay true to our identity and continue to pursue our vision to be one of the most innovative community colleges in the State, as well as continue our mission to provide the education, support and environment that enable individual students to realize their full potential and to prepare for success in the world.
As part of our mission, we will emphasize face-to-face discussions and innovative, experiential learning opportunities within a supportive environment. All of our students can meet individually with their faculty advisors to register for classes, and you will always find that our teachers are willing to meet with students throughout their time with us.
All learning styles are welcome at Coahoma Community College, and we are proud of the diversity of our campus. Everyone learns differently, but most great learners have a few important things in common - curiosity and excitement. They have confidence to go beyond their comfort zones. At Coahoma Community College, we make sure you are always tapping into all of the above. Our students have different interests and majors, but we have a strong sense of community and come together throughout the year as a family to celebrate academic achievements as well as athletics.
These things make the Coahoma Community College experience different from the rest. However, do not just take our word for it. We invite you to come to our campus and be a part of this exciting time at Coahoma Community College.
We hope to see you soon.
