CLARKSDALE – National SkillsUSA Week at Coahoma Community College continued its upward spiral Wednesday with a unique motivational workshop featuring hula hoops to hammer home the importance of teamwork.

Following Dr. Vivian Presley’s official presentation of the national observance, career and technical education students were quizzed on a video emphasizing how SkillsUSA is a cutting edge partnership with students, teachers, and industry.

According to educators, SkillsUSA allows students to connect with industry, network with business leaders, and defines SkillsUSA graduates as “an ideal hire.”

Interacting with Chris Dixon, CCC career center director, and Orlando Paden, CCC work study coordinator, in a motivational “Winning the Game of Life” workshop, students made suggestions, won prizes, acted out introducing themselves, working together and intertwining themselves via hula hoops.

Among their topics were setting goals, how to build confidence, “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail,” recognizing opportunities, making good choices and decisions.
