CLARKSDALE - When Coahoma Community College Cultural Awareness Week organizers elected to highlight young artistic groups dedicated to the performing arts in Clarksdale, chairman Yvonne Stanford agrees the results were overwhelming.

She says, area students enrolled in performing art schools and other organizations are not only enthusiastic, they are highly talented.

When CCC’s talent showcase unfolded in the Pinnacle during Cultural Awareness Week, the diversity ranged from young ballerinas in formal attire and modern dance costumes to second grade recorder musicians and serious violinists from George H. Oliver Elementary to the W.A. Higgins Middle School Rock Band,; the Delta Blues Museum student band, CCC’s Jazz Combo and Ezra Howard’s Zamar.

The large audience responded with applause and many remarking: “Just think about at the pool of super talented artists we are going to have in our community in a few years.”
