Coahoma Community College spotted Holmes 21 points before putting together any semblance of an offense Thursday night, and despite the sluggish play early, were still in position to pull out a win halfway through the third quarter. But as the game wore on, missed tackles and lack of depth and injury caught up with Tigers allowing the Bulldogs to pull away for the 48-21 win.

An interception return, and touchdown runs of 60 and 10 yards had the spirits of the Coahoma crowd broken. But the Tigers finally broke through with an eight play, 70-yard drive that was capped by a 5-yard touchdown pass from Quaintavous Peterson to Damico Ewing five minutes into the second period.

Coahoma then capitalized on defensive back Jerry Lyons INT and return to Hinds’ 44-yard line. The seven play scoring drive, that was sustained with athletic scramble and 25-yard pick up on fourth down by Peterson, end with Tiberas Lampkin bullying his way into the end zone from 1-yard out.

With time running out in the half, the Tigers defense allowed a final scoring as the crowd watched the CCC defenders fall by the wayside with a string of missed arm tackles that brushed off by the Bulldog runners. With 0:04 left in the half, HCC punched the ball across the goal line from a yard out, but missed the extra point sending the game into the locker room, 27-14.

Halfway through the third quarter, Peterson connected on another TD strike, this one from 5-yards out to receiver James Hill. Cody Spears put his third extra point of the night through the uprights and the Tigers had pulled within six, 27-21.

The CCC defense bent allowing Hinds to cross midfield, but held tight forcing what looked to be a punt on fourth down and six just inside Tiger territory, but the Bulldogs took a chance with a fake punt and hit pay dirt as the crowd silenced watching Bulldog linebacker Nick Glover scamper 46-yards for the touchdown.

That play was the dagger, and HCC would pull away with two fourth quarter scores fueled by two interceptions by Peterson as the Tigers tried to move quickly down the field. Coahoma finished its season with just a single win and near the bottom of the MACJC standings.
