Tigers Canít Pull Out Win in Home Opener
Coahomaís menís basketball team looked as if they were going to exact a measure of revenge Monday evening and avenge a season-opening loss to East Central during the Tigers home opener at the Pinnacle on Monday night. But every time CCC evened the score in the second half, the Warriors would knock down consecutive baskets, and also hit 11-of-15 free throws down the stretch, to keep the home team at bay and squeak out the eventual 75-72 victory on the road.
The Tigers played a solid first half and headed into the locker room t the half down just four points, and an energized CCC squad went on a 8-3 to open the second half and take the lead 47-46 with 16:35 remaining. The Tigers would claim the lead again later in the half, but East Central managed to recreate a four to six-point cushion for most of the half.
Coahoma (1-4) head coach Ira Peterson has his Tigers gelling and has said that the more experience his young team gets, the better they are going to continue to get.
CCC was led in scoring by Billy Jackson who dropped 20 points against the Warriors, with Markevius Brown adding 18 and Darcee Carson finishing with 12.
The Tigers will be in action again after the Thanksgiving holiday when they play host to Jones Community College on Dec. 4 at the Pinnacle. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
