Computer Servicing Tech Students Learn about Job Market

Students in Coahoma Community College’s Computer Servicing Technology program got a look into the working world of computer service Wednesday morning as head of the college’s technology and computer services, Matt Logan chief information officer with Ellucian, visited with students to offer some insight into the job market.

The roundtable question and answer session was facilitated by the college’s Careers Services and Placement Center, and provided students a forum to ask questions about the ever changing field of computers and technology.

The discussion between Logan and the students ranged from the current push towards server virtualization, to social media awareness, viruses and malware, and the effectiveness of communication in the field of computers.

“Communication skills can be one of your biggest assets,” said Logan to the students. “Many times you will have to relay a complicated problem and solution to your clients or employers who may not be tech savvy. So your ability to communicate effectively is extremely important.”

Coahoma’s Computer Servicing Technology program is one of 11 technical programs offered through the school’s Career and Technical Education division. Others include: Accounting and Technology (ACT), Medical Billing and Coding (MBC), Medical Office Technology (MOT), Office Systems Technology (OST), Childhood Development Technology (CDT), Collision Repair (CRT), Culinary Arts (CUT), Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM), Industrial Maintenance Mechanics (IMT) and Residential Carpentry Technology (RCT).
