Christmas at Coahoma Concert Scheduled Saturday
Get into the holiday spirit this Saturday evening when Coahoma Community College presents its annual “Christmas at Coahoma” concert beginning at 6:30 p.m., inside the Pinnacle on the Coahoma Campus.
Coahoma Community College and Agricultural High School’s Concert Choir, under the direction of Kelvin Towers and accompanied by the Memphis Chamber Orchestra, will be presenting “The Cry of Jeremiah” as it’s major work. Written by the African American female composer Dr. Rosephanye, the piece is a four-movement work based textually on the 20th chapter of the Book of Jeremiah and will be narrated by Dr. Kishki Hall – Speech Communications instructor at CCC.
“Our concert choir is comprised of talented singers from across the Mississippi Delta and Memphis area,” said Towers. “This will be an enjoyable musical experience that you won’t want to miss!”
Coahoma will also be welcoming guest choirs Saturday evening from the Higgins Music Academy in Clarksdale under the direction of Patrick Walker, and the Eastside High School Choir from Cleveland, MS under the direction of Latoisha Lewis. Special guest musicians Jennifer Stolle (piano) and Joshua Williams (drums) will also be performing.
The concert will feature a mixture of classical, spiritual and traditional music selections including a special rendition of “O’ Holy Night” as performed by the pop group N’ Sync. The evening will be closed by a performance of “Great and Marvelous” by Dr. Wayne a Bucknor.
The concert is free and open to the general public.
