Plans for Mentor/Mentee Social Currently Under Works
CLARKSDALE – More than 200 students, faculty and staff members at Coahoma Community College are expected to come out for a night of fun next month.
Plans to organize a Mentor/Mentee social, scheduled for Feb. 27 in the Zee A. Barron Student Union, are now underway.
Under the Division of Student Affairs, the Communicating Opportunities through Mentoring Practices to Achieve Student Success (C.O.M.P.A.S.S.) Mentor/Mentee program pairs CCC faculty/staff members with students to build a relationship that fosters personal and professional growth of the student.
The event’s organizing committee, which is chaired by Director of Counseling Services (Student Affairs) Renee’ L. Sanford and Dorm Manager Dian Thomas, met Friday morning to begin planning the special event.
Organizers said the social is designed to give mentors and mentees the opportunity to bond in a relaxed atmosphere.
“This is an exciting time for the mentors and mentees to interact together and have some fun,” Thomas said.
“We’re looking forward to everyone coming out and make this a grand ol’ event. We’ll be mixing a little old with a little new,” Sanford said.
So far, plans include a black and white color scheme, refreshments, live music and door prizes. A professional photographer will also be on-hand to provide snapshots from the special night.
Other committee members include: LaShasa Griffin, Dean of Student Affairs; Eugene Brown, Director of Student Activities; Janice Thomas, Administrative Assistant (Student Affairs); Darby Lamb, Assistant Director of Web Services; Christopher Dixon, Career Services and Placement Center Manager; and Tamara Washington, ABE Director.
