CLARKSDALE — The recent rash of inclement weather have forced some tweaking of the schedules of the Coahoma Community College athletic programs. Hit the hardest this far would be the Tigers baseball team who has had their first three dates rescheduled and have yet to take the field.

However, it looks like the clouds have parted and the Diamond Tigers will finally be able to get their season started this weekend, although the conditions are not ideal. Coahoma was supposed to be hosting a two-game, two-day tilt with Southeast Illinois this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. However, with the Eddie C. Smith Sportsplex still not ready for play after the December damage to the campus from strong straight-line winds, the game will in essence now be on the road.

“It’s not ideal, but we really appreciate Independence High School (Senatobia) and South Panola High School (Batesville) for letting us use their facilities,” said Head Baseball Coach Kenny Strong. “It’s been tough to get ready with the weather the last few weeks, but our guys are keeping in shape and doing everything they can to be ready to play this weekend.”

Saturday’s game will be held at Independence and Sunday’s contest at South Panola.

Coahoma is also scheduled to host Jackson State Wednesday, Feb. 19, depending on completed repairs to the baseball field.

Basketball Games tonight (Feb. 13)

Start times for tonight’s basketball games against Northeast MS Community College have been moved ahead by one hour. The Lady Tigers will tip-off at 5 p.m. with the Tigers scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

Tonight’s matchup has also been declared a “Pink Out” by the CCC Athletic Department. All students and fans are asked to show their support by wearing pink at tonight’s game. The first 75 fans into the Pinnacle this evening will receive a pink CCC T-shirt and all of the students in attendance will receive pink ribbons to wear.

The CCC Basketball teams have also scheduled a makeup date on the road at Baton Rogue Community College scheduled for Feb. 17. Starting times for that contest will be 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. in Baton Rogue.
