CCC’s Career Expo Promises Huge Success
CLARKSDALE – With time winding down, organizers are making final preparations to ensure that Coahoma Community College’s 2014 Career Expo is a huge success.
Sponsored by CCC’s Division of Career and Technical Education, the Career Expo is a free event designed to connect job seekers with employers as well as provide educational demonstrations and presentations to students, parents and community members. This year’s Career Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in the Pinnacle, located on CCC’s campus.
The event’s planning committee met for a working session Feb. 20, and Chairperson Charles Butler announced that several area schools have committed to attending the event. In addition, more industries have signed up to participate, bringing the total to 50, and many of them have vacancies they are looking to fill.
“There are several employers who will be there looking for employees to hire. An example is Krystal who called and expressed that they will be opening a restaurant in Clarksdale this spring and are in the process of recruiting workers, shift supervisors and managers,” Butler said.
According to Butler, several law enforcement offices and state agencies will also be onsite handing out educational information. In addition, the event will feature professional development workshops and trainings on topics such as money management, effective communication and social media.
“There’ll be a variety of different businesses, industries and vendors. We would like to encourage the community to come out and take advantage of exposure to these career and employment opportunities,” Butler said. “It’s not to late for interested vendors to signup or schools to participate.”
