Tigers Have One Final Opportunity to Earn Conference Win
BOONEVILLE — The Coahoma Community College baseball team will have one final opportunity to earn a MACJC North Division conference win this Saturday when they host Holmes Community College on Sophomore Day. Pre-game ceremonies will honor the Tigers four second-year players Rob Brigham (Oakland, CA), Ray Williams (D’lo, MS), Demario Brown (Laurel, MS) and Farahji Robinson (Shaw, MS).
The Tigers are coming off another double-header defeat Wednesday afternoon on the road at the hands of Northeast Mississippi. NEMCC pounded Coahoma into submission in Game 1 with a 22-4, game-shortened (mercy rule), walk-fest with CCC pitchers issuing nine walks and hitting four batters. The defense also committed four errors.
The Coahoma offense was highlighted by back-to-back homeruns by Hunter Necaise and T.J. Knowles.
Game 2 proved to be more competitive, but the Tigers defense committed seven errors that led to a 9-4 loss in the nightcap. The Coahoma pitchers also issued four more walks in Game 2 and hit another NEMCC batter.
T.J. Knowles blasted another homerun (his fourth of the season) and finished the day going 2-for-4 with two walks. Other CCC batters with multiple hits were Spence Howell who finished 3-for-6 (three singles), Luis Colon who finished the day 2-for-7 (a double and a single), and Necaise who finished 2-for-7 (HR and a single).
Coahoma’s games Saturday will have playoff implications, even if they’re not for the Tigers. Holmes must sweep CCC in order to slip into the fourth and final playoff spot in the MACJC North. The Sophomore Day activities will begin at 12:30 p.m. with the double-header to follow at 1 p.m.
