TUNICA – More than 100 golfers braved windy but sunny skies Friday to play the Morgan Freeman Scholarship Golf Tournament and make education a reality for many students at Coahoma Community College.

Bill Luckett, Clarksdale attorney and business partner of actor Morgan Freeman has served as chairman of the event since it was organized initially by CCC administrator Bob Swatzell to assist students enrolled in rigorous academic programs with no time off for work.

Although Swatzell has retired from CCC, he is an energetic tournament supporter and played the course with his brother and two nephews from Nashville this year.

“We look forward to the tournament; It’s the only time of year we see each other,” said Swatzell..

Twenty-six teams participated in the tournament held at Tunica National, and handsome trophies were awarded in two divisions: championship and first flite as well as numerous door prizes.

The 2012 tournament is part of Homecoming festivities with a Presidential Gala scheduled Friday night featuring a posh dinner and celebrity vocalist Regina Bell entertaining.
