Presidential Gala and Morgan Freeman Golf Tournament Raise $100,000 for Coahoma Community College Students

CCC Alumnus Greg Hoskins is surprised with the first Presidental Award by Dr. Vivian Presley, college president.

CLARKSDALE – In formal attire and surrounded by glittering décor, officials, alumni, and supporters of Coahoma Community College celebrated CCC’s second Presidential Gala on Homecoming Eve with good news, fine cuisine, and celebrity entertainment.

CCC alumnus Greg Hoskins, retired Clarksdale Chief of Police with 28 years of service to the department, was honored and surprised with the first Presdent’s Award for outstanding service to the college and the community by Dr. Vivian President, college president.

Dr. Greg Hudson, vice president of student affairs and Gala chair, announced $100,000 had been raised for the Coahoma Male initiative and student scholarships: $55,000 through the Morgan Freeman Scholarship Golf Tournament, and $45,000 from Gala sponsors.

“We are endowing scholarships in the names of our golf tournament organizers: Bill Luckett, Greg Malatesta, and Bob Swatzell,” Dr. Hudson said.

The Isle of Capri and Valley Food Services officials were honored and presented awards as Gala corporate sponsors. Gold and Tiger Silver sponsors were also recognized by Dr. Presley, Dr. Hudson, Donald Green, CCC Foundation president; and Robert Rockett, CCC National Alumni president.

Opening the event was entertainment by the Smoove X”Perience Band and Elder Ezra Howard gave the invocation.

The grand finale was a performance by Grammy Award-winning vocalist Regina Bell.
