The Coahoma Community College campus is busy preparing for its 2018 New Student Orientation scheduled on August 3, 2018, at 8:30 a.m.

The event is designed for first-time freshman and transfer students; providing them with information to ease the transition into college life and introduce the goals, mission, policies, admission requirements and programs of study available at Coahoma.

Themed: “Walk It, Talk It – It all Starts Here,” the event will encompass a fun-filled day of informational sessions, campus tours, team and leadership building exercises and other entertaining activities. Students will also receive a rundown of the registration process and can register for classes.

Karen Woods-Done, director of Enrollment and Student Services, encourages all new Tigers and their parents to attend.

“There are many reasons for new students to attend New Student Orientation at Coahoma Community College, said Done. “During the session, students will learn about college services which will support their educational and personal goals.”

According to Done, it’s also an opportunity to demonstrate to students why attending CCC can be the catalyst for much success in the future.

“Our purpose is to assist with initial academic advisement, course selection, registration, and to familiarize students with the campus environment and physical facilities, said Done. “We are working to create an atmosphere that minimizes anxiety, promotes positive attitudes, and stimulates excitement for learning that we want to share with our new students.”

By the conclusion of the event, Done ultimately hopes to have prepared students for a seamless transition to college and introduce them to the “Tiger Nation.”

“During New Student Orientation, we will provide a welcoming atmosphere for students and families to meet faculty, staff, continuing students, as well as other new students,” Done added. “We will provide the families of new students comprehensive information about the academic and student service resources and programs. Additionally, we will provide information on work-study and other areas to assist students financially during their tenure at CCC.”
