Dr. Vivian M. PresleyA MESSAGE TO THE INSTITUTION’S STAKEHOLDERS FROM THE ACCREDITATION LEADER AND PRESIDENT:  DR. VIVIAN M. PRESLEY

Over the course of the next three years, Coahoma Community College will be engaged in the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (COC-SACS) reaffirmation of accreditation.

The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools is the recognized regional accrediting body in the southern region of the United States for those institutions of higher education that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, or doctoral degrees. The COC-SACS is charged with the responsibility of carrying out the accreditation and the reaffirmation processes for institutions of the southern region of the country.

The reaffirmation of accreditation process has drastically changed since Coahoma Community College’s last accreditation in 2000. The new process consists of two major components: completion of the Compliance Certification Report and the development of a Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The Compliance Certification Report focuses on the institution’s past and present compliance with 77 Core Requirements, Comprehensive Standards, and Federal Regulations. The Quality Enhancement Plan is a carefully designed and focused course of action that addresses a well-defined topic or issue directly related to improving student learning at Coahoma Community College.

Accreditation is a means of ensuring quality and accountability in higher education. The reaffirmation of accreditation process is an intense effort that will encourage all departments to renew their commitments to continuous assessment and improvement of their programs or services.

In the coming months, you will be called upon to serve on reaffirmation committees and to provide reaffirmation committees with important information and evidence of compliance in certain key areas for your department, division, program, or unit. Please respond to these requests so that the institution will have accurate, thorough, and timely data in order to meet its deadlines. In addition, each of us will be actively involved in choosing a topic and plan of action for our Quality Enhancement Plan.

Because of your unrelenting dedication to quality, Coahoma Community College has made great strides in its quest for excellence. The reaffirmation process is yet another opportunity for us to showcase the outstanding work we are doing as an institution and to focus on how we can bring the institution to the next level of excellence.
